Rich Dad Poor Dad
I just read Guy Kawasaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad. Technically it is a pretty lousy read. It is amazing how many times he will say the same thing twice in a paragraph and then again a half page later. I got really sick of the names Rich Dad - Poor Dad. Couldn’t they just have been dad and some other guy? And some of the conversations from his childhood were painfully scripted and awkward.
Plus, the book really doesn’t give much technical advice on changing your money life.
Having said all of that, the book works well as a pep talk book and does a very good job of saying, “Hey, go read as much as possible about finance and investing so that you can know what you need to do.”
It worked so well that I rushed over to the library and checked out a few basic investing books and really want to take a few dollars and start putting it away.
My wife and I already have a few basic things in place. We make automatic deposits into an IRA, and a couple stock index mutual funds. I really want to take some of my own money and learn how to handle these transactions myself and learn how to do more than just keep adding money to the index funds.
For that, I say, “Thanks, Guy.”

I wasn’t very impressed with that either. Lately I’ve been listening to books like that on my ipod and it is a lot more interesting to hear it on the way to work rather than force yourself to find time at home.
