My personal financial goals for 2007
I have one personal financial goal for 2007. On December 31st, 2007, I want to have $1000 of my own money.
This is independent of the money my wife and I save. That is our retirement/emergency fund money. This $1000 is a personal money management goal.
I have a tendency to spend my fluff money as soon as it hits my wallet which makes it hard for me to buy larger items like a laptop computer and new TV that I don’t really need but would really like to have.
So, next year, I’m going to work on training myself to save larger sums of money. Hopefully, the goal can grow in 2008 and beyond.
I do have one known roadblock in this plan. Sometime around March/April, I have to pay for my season football ticket. That is several hundred dollars. Any money that I save prior to the purchase of the tickets will be used to buy those tickets. But, the goal is still to have $1000 on December 31st, 2007.
This money will come from a variety of sources. First, my wife and I budget some personal fun money that we give to ourselves weekly. It is normally about $80 per week. Second, I do make some money with the advertising on my various blogs that I write. We haven’t made an official decision yet, but somewhere between 10-20% of that money will be for me to use as fun money with the rest being divided between more responsible family financial goals and fun money for my wife.
To meet my $1000 goal, I will probably actually need to save closer to $1700 with the extra going towards the football tickets and some other smaller unexpected things throughout the year. That means I will need to squirrel away approximately $142 per month or $33 per week which is manageable but will still be challenging.
And what good would it be to make a goal that was not manageable and challenging.
I plan on using this blog to document my progress as well as ideas that I have for earning and saving more money and asking for advice from anybody that is reading.
Thanks for stopping by and hope to hear from you soon.
