I mentioned yesterday that my savings jar for now is an empty Folgers jar. The Sunday after Thanksgiving, I gave up drinking pop.

Before that I drank 3-5 bottles a day. Most of them were bought at gas stations or convenient stores in the offices where I work. That works out to $3-6 per work day in pop expenses.

Now that I kicked that habit, that is $3-6 per day that I will not be spending and should be able to save. I have been drinking coffee (with no cream or sugar) instead which I can usually get for free wherever I work. At home, I can buy coffee for much cheaper than I was paying for pop.

This should pretty easily lead to at least $20 or so per week that I can put in the savings jar and if I am able to go through most of 2007 without drinking pop or replacing it with other similar expenses, that should go a long way toward getting me to my financial goal.

If so, maybe I will have to change the goal to $2000. We’ll see in a couple weeks if I am still staying away from the pop.

Wish me luck.
